AMTE BIPOC Mentoring Committee

Purpose: To continue the success of the Early Career BIPOC Mentoring program which aims for mentor/mentee relationships to be mutually beneficial and for mentor/mentee spaces to provide a sense of community, safety, and transparency, which are essential (and often non-existent) for BIPOC faculty in their home institutions.

The BIPOC Mentoring Committee is charged with promoting the mission and goals of AMTE by:

  1. Reviewing mentor/mentee applications to best match mentees with mentors who will provide advice, coaching, and advocacy for mentees as they become more engaged in the organization and their profession.
  2. Organizing and implementing the program each year, beginning with orientation that sets expectations for participants’ roles, responsibilities, and suggested meeting schedules.
  3. Ensuring the success of mentoring relationships with periodic check-ins with participants and feedback.
  4. Working with the AMTE Fundraising Committee to sustain the program financially. We propose that one of the members of the BIPOC Mentoring Committee serve as a liaison with the AMTE Fundraising Committee to ensure accurate information is provided for marketing and funding purposes.
  5. Work with the Treasurer to record mentor awards and financial transactions accurately.
